Colaklaas, Coca Cola infiltrates the Dutch market

Made for Marketing magazine about the marketing of Coca Cola in the Netherlands. In America Coca Cola practically owns the imagery of Christmas so I thought Coke could take over Dutch Sinterklaas in order to completely rule the Dutch soda market.

Right now in the Champagne issue of Winelife. The history of Champagne. This drink started as an accident, unwanted bubbling and exploding bottles. I've created a page in the style of a Book of Hours, including a text telling of the misery of the creation of the first Champagne

Bag of Holy Beans

Right now in Tijdschrift voor Marketing. Socially responsible companies do better long term. I've drawn a bag of Holy Beans. The Dutch expression "Holy bean" means "Goody-two shoes".

Gloom

Gloom is a card-game i've been playing. The characters you play with in the game are a little too gothic and Edward Gorey-copycat for my taste. So, i've Gloom-ed my friends. Below some cards i've made to amuse myself with.

An article in which several marketeers summarize their favourite articles.  So to save us time from having to read all that's been published in their field. So, why not dump all the specialist literature and wait for the summary? 

Back from France!

Dating scams, Irina will never arrive

Here's one I did on dating scams for Parools PS. The article describes how Dutch men meet women through international dating sites. They get scammed by these women declaring them their everlasting love and asking for money. Eventually she'll promise to come to Schiphol airport where lonely men will wait indefinitely. Sometimes they'll even be waiting for the same woman... 

Gay Pride

With Gay Pride coming up in Amsterdam, I did this one for Parools PS magazine. It's about the trouble with finding new love. While there's a lack of fresh gays in the Amsterdam gay community. Everyone just seems to know each other. Especially now you can use Facebook and Grindr. For the image I decided to look for solutions, so I made up Freddy's gay import. 

Airline wines; drinking in the sky

Made for Winelife Magazine about airline wines. Turns out there's a pretty good wine selection aboard many planes, particularly in business class where the wine is served in proper crystal glasses. There's even an award for wines served aboard airplanes, " The Cellars in the Sky award."  Naturally I was inspired by those fascinating Airplane Safety instruction cards. Above the illustration and beneath some details of the main illustration. 

Stepfathers

Right now in Vrouw magazine, for an article about a stepfather trying to win the love of his new stepson. Going to the toy store was his winning move. I tried to keep it sweet, but slightly excessive. Caption: "THIS is your new daddy!" 

Ikrotterdam

Still busy making work with IkRotterdam.nl We've been drawing a lot of dark pub interiors lately but with summer arriving it's time to go outside and draw (as soon as it finally stops raining that is). Here's the lovely car of Branco Delicatessen.

RSI

Sketchbooks in Zone5300

Right now in magazine Zone5300, a spread with picks from my sketchbooks and a little interview. I'm also going to do a cartoon for Zone, the first one appeared in this issue as well!

My first baby card

After saying no against baby-cards for years (sweet & cute is not quite my subject matter), I thought I'd have a go at it for some friends of mine. They gave me carte-blanche and I tried not to shame them. Think I've managed. This is the textless version, front and inside. In the finished one the letters if the name are  in the frames on the front. The inside (see under) is handwritten and naturally contains all their information in the finished version. 

At the library

The Rotterdam Library has opened a new library in the IJsselmonde area for which I, and four other illustrators, have designed the backs of several bookcases. The bookcases stand with their backs to the library entry so you should see them straight away when you walk in. I'll visit to shoot some pictures yet. This one I did on the subject of Psychological Literature.

Speed-dating

Right now in Vrouw magazine, an illustration on speed-dating. I made two versions for the client, one about sex on the first date and a milder version you can see underneath, which is the one they used.

From the sketchbook: sketched in a museum in Antwerp. It says " Fashions always return, don't they?" " I'm certainly looking forward to this one coming round again!."

The bitch

I re-used this image for my Christmas card last year but actually it was for an article on bitchiness. The text says " Super-bitch Maria took her professional literature very seriously." She's reading: Why men marry bitches, Machaivalli, Free the bitch within, The taste of power, The lifes and loves of a She devil and a couple of Dutch publications in this line.
